The David Smith Mosaic Archive

David J. Smith Mosaic Archive consists of books, periodicals, pamphlets, photographs and slides and represents a lifetime’s research on ancient mosaics by David Smith, one of the foremost authorities on Roman mosaics. It therefore constitutes a valuable research resource. The Trust is committed to keeping the collection up-to-date by regular purchase of specialist mosaic publications.

In 1999 the archive, which is in the Trust’s care, was transferred from Devizes Museum to the Library of the Institute of Classical Studies in the hope of making it more generally accessible to scholars. The library was transferred to the ownership of the Institute of Classical Studies in 2015. It is housed in Room 339 within the Library and can be consulted by request during opening hours.
