During the summer of 2018, under the umbrella title, Active Archaeology, the Grosvenor Museum in Chester ran a series of hands on events in the City that provided opportunities for people of all ages, including school children to find out about different aspects of archaeology and its importance to Chester.
Co-ordinated by the museum’s archaeology department and assisted by a project co-ordinator on placement from the University of Chester, archaeologists undertook a variety of activities including handling sessions with passengers on the Chester to Manchester railway line and worked with a local school to develop an introduction to practical archaeology programme.
Underpinning the Active Archaeology project was a specially produced exhibition about the work of the Museum and the Archaeology department. This was displayed prominently at the City’s Grosvenor Shopping Centre and is still on display today.
